2009 Saturn Vue Greenline 2 Mode Hybrid

Second Vue Hybrid to go on sale in 4th quarter of 2008

GM has recently announced the introduction of the 2009 Saturn Vue Greenline 2 Mode Hybrid, which is expected to go on sale in the 4th quarter of 2008.

This new version is expected to offer a fuel economy increase of up to 50% over a non-hybrid V6 Vue, a range of more than 500 miles, and no compromises in performance (0-60 mph in 7.3 seconds) or towing capacity (3,500 pounds), and is classified as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle.

The Vue Greenline 2 Mode Hybrid uses GM's sophisticated 3.6L VVT V6 engine with direct injection (similar to the engine in the 2008 Cadillac CTS), and two-mode hybrid system similar to that used on the current Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon 2 Mode Hybrids, and soon to become available on the Cadillac Escalade 2 Mose SUV and Chevrolet Silverado 2 Mode pickup. Energy to power the electric motors comes from a 1.8 KWH 300 volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack.

Other energy efficient features include electric power steering, light weight aluminum alloy wheels and low-rolling resistance tires.

While I have not yet driven the Vue 2 Mode, I have driven the Tahoe 2 Mode, and I was extremely impressed. It is a technical marvel, but it remains to be seen if it will be a commercial success with gas at only $3.00 per gallon.

If you want a compact SUV that will respect the environment, save money at the pump, and at the same time retain performance and towing capability, this may be your vehicle. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date, later this year.
